Learning with Laptops

Can technology contribute to improving the quality of the work we offer kids? Learning with Laptops is a site focused on efforts to use laptops to answer that question. The lead piece on the site today answers questions from an educator. Here's part of the first answer:

There is no "standard" laptop using kid. Some students immediately bond with their laptops and are rarely without them. Some students really don't like having them. Most are somewhere in between. The more teachers do which requires the kids to make use of their laptops, the more the majority of the kids have and use their laptops. There is a lot of use of laptops in the library, hallways and on school grounds. Much of this is email related. We have many subject area conferences in our email which are popular with the kids. All faculty in the laptop grades also use email to distribute assignment sheets and other class materials. There is much word processing of assignments going in the non-classroom use. In the early days of our program many kids played games but this is the exception now.

It's a site worth looking at for anyone interested in this area.
