Leaders are readers
Harry Truman said:
"Readers of good books, particularly books of biography and history, are preparing themselves for leadership. Not all readers become leaders. But all leaders must be readers."
Nykola has a great post about a just-released National Endowment for the Arts survey spotlighting a dramatic decline in reading. I've never been a big one for "must read" lists; I have great gaping holes in my literature background surrounded by surprising solid structures (science fiction and Shakespeare, for example). But, I'm pretty sure that reading is essential to becoming educated (25 books per year) and to creating the leaders we need in school. So, I think this trend calls for action.
