Teacher in California

Do Firemen get "Merit Pay" for saving the most buildings?
Do Doctors get extra for saving a certain amount of people a year?
Think about it. Merit pay is wrong for students and educators.

It's a shame that efforts to reduce class size, equalize impoverished inner-city and rural districts, and increasing the availabilty of early learning programs take a back seat to "what works in business." Education is NOT business. For-profit schools, such as Edison Schools, have proven that.

They have some fairly solid reports out of Denver on merit pay. The process, however, is both lengthy and treacherous. The teachers' union came to Texas to testify in favor of merit pay under the right kind of model.
