Besides growing up with "positive" thoughts and actions, I came across an article by Roberts Emmons in the Summer issue of Greater Good magazine titled "Pay It Forward". Emmons explains why Americans typically underestimate the importance of gratitude, and discusses surprising and encouraging results he's uncovered, outlining gratitude's positive impact on people's emotional, social, and physical health. Perhaps gratitude along with positive thinking and actions can lead children to be more successful.

Dave,
I followed your link to the Penn Resiliency Program and was encouraged to learn that parents are also involved in the program. That's great because then home and school can work to support these needy kids.
