I would suggest that we actually live best and most happily when we have purposes in multiple areas of our lives: family, friends, work, community, spiritual. Further, our purposes need to engage our strengths and enfold our values. Then, purpose can give rise to truly motivating goals. For more, see this Positive Psychology News Daily post.
